London: British Council, n.d. Panel Poster, 27 x 60cm, glossy cream paper with text lettered in red, black and dark grey, The British Library (Zweig Foundation) and The British Council acknowledged at the foot, re-printed from Old Snow (Anvil, 1992), translated by Bonnie S. McDougall and Chen Maiping.

Lightly toned and slightly creased along top edge. Item #1242

Published as part of the popular Poems on the Underground series that has been running since 1986. The series was the idea of three writers, Judith Chernaik, Gerard Benson, and Cicely Herbert whose aim was to bring poetry to a wider audience. Tom Davidson has designed for the series since its inception. According to the London Transport Museum online, "Panel posters were produced for display in Underground car interiors, as well as on the inside and outside of buses and trams. Because they did not have to fit a standard frame or wall space, they are smaller than other poster formats and vary slightly in size.”
Tiantian is the nickname given to the post’s daughter; the poem was written in exile after Tienanman Square.
