Black cloth covered boards with lettering in gilt on the spines; plain endpapers; white dustwrapper, green illustration, red stripe under black lettering.

Both volumes of similar condition: head of spines very gently pushed; faint white marks to boards; top edge of text blocks a shade toned and foxed, minor foxing along the fore edge; spotting and toning to endpapers; pages are clean but have yellowed slightly with age; dust wrapper a touch marked and scuffed, verso foxed. Additional notes specific to each volume: Vol. 1: 5x3mm and 2x2mm spot on the fore edge; Vol. 2: Bottom corner of the front board is bruised; 5mm wide residue to the top 55mm of the fore edge of the text block.
