Thomas Welsby (1858-1941) was an Ipswich born company director, politician, local historian and sportsman. According to the australia Dictionary of Biography he was foundational member of the Historical Society of Queensland, serving as Treasurer, President adn Vice President, and he advocated that the government subsidize the society to collect Queensland's early records. He wrote seven books about the History of the Moreton Bay Region. The Discoverers of the Brisbane River published in 1913 was the third.
George Mackaness (1882-1968), was an educationist, author and bibliophile. According to the Australian Dictionary of Biography, "He made notable contributions in three fields—as a teacher of English, as a historian who made available quantities of documentary material, and as a bibliophile who made the collecting of Australiana popular."
