South Brisbane: Watson Ferguson and Company, 1969. First Edition. Hardcover (22 x 14cm); pp. , 178, + 16 pages of black and white plates; grey cloth covered boards; lettering in black on the spine; inscribed by author; black, orange and white illustrated dust wrapper and further black and white illustrations by Judith Holmes.
Head of spine pushed, tail a little bruised; glue used in binding process is visible at the tail of the spine; tender at front gutter; an indentation the size of a pin prick on the bottom edge of the front board; corners gently rounded; cloth and edges of text block are faintly foxed; toning to endpapers caused by dust wrapper; "enhanced" with children's art (blue pen squiggles) on the ffep (25 x 10mm), title page (170 x 40mm) and plate facing page 9 (50 x 25mm); pp.144-147 appears to be a little more used than other pages as it has flecks of foxing, occasional pencil marks and a single blue dot; otherwise very faint yellowing with age, occasional spots throughout but mostly clean and fairly bright. Dust wrapper is unclipped; head and tail are pushed; light creasing along edges; corners abraded; faint scuffs which has caused light patches of colour loss; verso is toned with light water marks which aren't visible on the front cover.
Undated inscription reads: "To Keith Richards A.B.C. Toowoomba From K. Emmerson [address withheld]" Item #1379
In the forward, Sir Raphael Cilento notes that, "the Royal Historical Society of Queensland constantly requests and encourages Queenslanders who have a vast store of memories of the early days to set them down in writing, before they are forgotten or otherwise lost." Kathleen Emmerson has done exactly that by recording, "a personal, simple, series of pictures and reminiscences drawn from real life and from actual acquaintance with the places and many of the people who span the time from the present [at time of publication] back to those early days," in Chinchilla and the surrounding district.
