Izrael Konyorgesei / The Wanderers of Israel

Budapest: Singer and Wolfner, 1905. Twenty-first edition. Octavo : pp. xiii, 461, 3 (blank) : parallel text in two columns, Hungarian and Hebrew : watered silk endpapers : all edges gilt : Bakelite covers with fabric hinges : brass clasps and designs on lower (front) cover, inlaid with mother of pearl. Housed in a hinged custom cardboard box with a padded silk interior to the lower cover and soft fabric to inside of upper cover.

Lower (front) cover spotted; two handwritten notes opposite the title page, dated 1930 and 1932; loosely inserted a folded invitation (in Hungarian) to a Jewish service in Budapest on May 25, 1930, and in between the fold three pressed flowers. Custom box in poor shape. Item #2614

Adapted by Salamon Schill, this edition was translated into Hungarian by Henrik Deutsch of Neha.

A lovely binding but unlikely to be original as Bakelite was first created in 1907 and would not have been used as a bookbinding material until later.

Price: $75.00
