Samuel Butler was a poet and satirist remembered for his satirical poem Hudibras which enjoyed a long-lived popularity. The work served as a warning against religious sectarianism following the English Civil War. Christopher H.O. Scaife (1900 - 1988) was variously an actor, editor and scholar of English literature.
