The 2/1 Australian Machine Gun Battalion was formed in December 1939 as part of the 6th Division. It served in the Middle East, Greece, Crete and New Guinea. Battle honours include Balikpapan, Borneo, Milford Highway, Mount Olympus and Servia Pass. It was disbanded on 26 January 1946. This book is cited by the Australian War Memorial as one of the major references on the Battalion and is richly illustrated throughout with photographs and drawings. It includes the Nominal Roll and appendices on the Vickers machine gun, soldiers’ pets, honours and awards and casualties.
