The 4th Light Horse Brigade and the 11th Light Horse regiment as part of it were raised in February 1915, sailing from Australia in June 1915. The 11th served at Gallipoli, defended the Suez Canal in 1916, fought in Gaza and Palestine in 1917 and Semakh in 1918. Battle Honours include Damascus, Egypt 1915-17, El Mughar, Gallipoli, 1915, Gaza-Beersheba, Jerusalem, Jordan (Es Salt), Megiddo, Nebi Samwil, Palestine, 1917-18, Rumani, Sari Bair, Sharon, Suvla. This book is cited by the Australian War Memorial as the major reference on the Regiment.
