The 2/4th Independent Company was formed in December 1941 and deployed in small groups in Northern Australia to harrass Japanese should they land. In August 1942 it was sent to Timor to use guerilla tactics against the Japanese and gather intelligence. Sent to Milne Bay in August 1943, it took part in the landing at Lae where it suffered heavy casualties. It later served on Morotai, Borneo and Tarakan. The Squadron was disbanded in January 1946.
