KPM (Royal Packet Navigation Company), was a Dutch shipping company that operated in Indonesia from 1888 to 1966. It employed Carl Shreve (1901-1988) to produce this lavish advertising brochure by interpreting the spirit of the Far East in words and oil paintings. Only on the last page is the shipping line mentioned. Shreve was an American artist, journalist and world traveller who also produced illustrations and covers for magazines and newspapers including the Australian Women’s Weekly. A stunning example of pre-World War II advertising art.
