First published in serial form in Topham's daily paper (scandal rag) The World, 1790, this memoir of a miser is said to have lifted circulation by 1000 copies a day. It went through six editions that year alone, reaching the ninth edition in 1791 and the twelfth, "corrected and enlarged, and with a new appendix" in 1805.
Henry Graham Pollard (1903-1976) was an English bookseller and bibliographer. In 1978 Sotheby's auctioned Pollard's library. This title was not listed in the Sotheby's catalogue, perhaps because of its condition.
