Spine darkened and brittle with use; head and tail faintly rubbed, joints a touch more so; slight lean; binding a little tender and hinges split in multiple places; corners gently abraded and bottom edges marked; gilt on covers rubbed; covers marked, a clear residue across spine and boards; text block reasonably foxed and with insect damage, light nibbling to fore edge, 15 x 5mm and 55 x 5mm patches of nibbling to top edge; endpapers toned with light spotting; heavy spotting to first and last few pages then moderate to heavy scattered foxing throughout, some pages completely clean; book club stamp and fabric tape repair to hinges on page 1; 6 plates detached at pp. 10, 184, 248, 280 (with tape repair) and 236, two more plates loose at pp. 14 and 90; pp. 28-30 and 185-187 are toned and brittle near gutter.
