The narrative of this book was compiled from the official diary of the voyage and was intended as a memento for those who sailed on the Royal Yacht. The account covers BRITANNIA”s preliminary voyage to Mombassa round the cape of Good Hope, H.R.H. the Princess Margaret’s East African Cruise, H.R.H. the Duke of Edinburgh’s cruise to Australia and the Antarctic, H.M. The Queen’s State Visit to Portugal and the Yacht’s final return passage to Portsmouth. This is Copy no. 21 and is inscribed at the limitation page to Pat Forbes from Ian Lewis, most likely Lieutenant-Commander I.C.S. Lewis, who served on the Royal Yacht. The inscription reads, “Pat. Forbes / to remind him of his guest / Ian Lewis who needs no reminder /to recall the hospitality he / received in Sydney / 1957”.
