Songs of Innocence and of Experience

Liverpool: Henry Young and Sons, Ltd., 1923. Limited edition. Facsimile, small quarto (19.5 x 14.2cm); 8pp (half title, limitation page, title, blank, publisher's note); 54 illustated leaves (rectos only); oatmeal cloth spine over blue paper boards, rectangular paper label on spine and on the top board.

The text pages unopened, slight age toning to all, extra paper labels tipped in at back; corners slighty bumped, slight lean, light stain to the oatmeal spine at the top board, toning to the edges of the boards. Item #997

No. 93 of 100 uncoloured copies. Altogether 151 copies were printed and were intended to be hand coloured by Mr Hurd, following Blake's techniques. However, Mr Hurd found the task so arduous he was only able to complete 51 coloured copies over the course of eight and a half years. The remaining 100 were sold uncoloured. The coloured copies are of course extremely desirable, but all copies are scarce and the uncoloured copies allow one to appreciate the line of Blake's engravings.

Price: $750.00
