Auberon's diary entries in the satirical political magazine "Private Eye". These were extracted and annotated by Galli (with the help of two researchers) while working in the political studies department of a tertiary institution. Galli was advancing the argument that the student of politics when reflecting on world events needs to consider contemporary attitudes, "...what people were saying and thinking in Washington and London at the time decisions were being taken and history, of a sort, being made." (p.5).
