The journal covered various facets of Queensland’s past, including exploration, colonial settlement, early missionary activities, and architectural history. It routinely featured articles on built environments, housing styles, and local trades. It was published in May and November of each year. After Volume 3 number 10 (November 1979) it was renamed the John Oxley Journal: a bulletin for historical research in Queensland and ran for a further two years. (1980–1981).
