Ann Menebroker was one of the leading women poets of the male dominated "no apologies given and none needed" cohort of poets known as the "Meat Poets". She was widely published in her lifetime and is remembered in the dedication of Charles Bukowski's "South of No North". The inscription to fellow poet and visual artist Billy Jones reads, "To Billy Jones, Long time friend and lovely poet, outstanding artist! Love, Annie"
