First and very scarce novel by Sir Carleton Kemp Allen (1877-1966) who was born in Melbourne, Australia educated at the University of Sydney (where he edited Hermes for two years) and at Oxford where he became Professor of Jurisprudence. A very good first printing. During World War I Allen served as a captain in the 13th Battalion, Middlesex Regiment, and was awarded the Military Cross in 1918. Miller/Macartney, p35.
