Jacques Cartier (1491-1557) was a French mariner whose explorations of the Canadian coast and the St Lawrence River in 1534, 1535 and 1541-1542 laid the basis for later French claims to the area. He is also credited with naming Canada. Edition limited to 300 copies on deckle-edge paper, and 35 copies on Japan paper, this one of the 300. Includes vocabulary of the natives of Canada.
