Published in the same year the UK. Trove records no Australian library holdings of the first American or UK editions. The novel was serialised in 'The Australian Town and Country Journal' in 17 weekly instalments between 19 October 1901 and February 1902 and is a murder mystery involving Australians and set in London. Hornung visited Australia during 1884-1886 and approximately two-thirds of his novels have Australian content. Probably best known as the creator of Raffles, the 'gentleman burglar' and test cricketer, Hornung was a brother-in-law of Arthur Conan Doyle. Loder, p. 116 listing as unexamined.
